It’s Daylight Savings Time!
Dealing with any sort of a time change is hard, but with a baby, it can be downright painful. Sleep specialist Kim West, The Sleep Lady, partnered with Pampers, and has provided insights on how to navigate Daylight Savings Time (DST) with minimal effect. I have gotten used to time changes in my travels from North America to Europe, and these are the biggest MUST-DOs for a smooth time change:
Keep Baby Dry:
Thankfully Pampers Baby Dry diapers feature 12-hours of overnight dryness protection to help keep baby dry, and asleep, no matter what the time difference. I stopped giving Livi her midnight diaper change when I started using the Pampers Baby Dry diapers. I was worried about her getting diaper rash after being in the same diaper from 7pm to 7am, but thankfully, she is dry and happy every morning!
Slowly Shift Bedtime:
Shift bedtime back or forward 10 to 15 minutes gradually for the week leading up to DST.
Early Sunrise, Means More Sunshine:
Unfortunately for us, DST in the spring means baby’s new wake up time will be an hour earlier (Boooo less sleep time!!) Open the blinds and expose baby to at least 30 minutes of sunshine to help their body’s adjust to the time change.
Adjust Nap Schedule:
Reschedule naps according to the new time. This will ensure baby isn’t too exhausted before bedtime.
Be Patient:
DST can cause a disruption to sleep patterns that can take up to a week to adjust to. As baby gets comfortable with springing forward, Pampers 12-hour overnight protection helps minimize unnecessary sleep disruption.
Follow the Light:
It’s amazing how baby will respond to sunlight and darkness. This is an easy way to signal to baby if it’s time for sleep or time for play.
