Why I Love Autumn

Ashley Leggat

Fall is definitely my favourite time of year. I like wearing comfy clothes, I like that I can eat a giant dinner and I won’t have to put on a bathing suit later on, and I really like that the temperature is juuuust right. (I’m trying to brace myself for winter, but I’m just not feeling it right now).

These were some of my fall highlights:

HALLOWEEN: Definitely one of the best nights. I try to make my house as scary as possible, and actually made one kid cry this year…. Is it wrong that that made me happy? Job well done?

HALLOWEEN CANDY: This year I had a 2 for 1 special. I got 2 full sized chocolate bars for every 1 I handed out. We had about 30 trick or treaters, so all in all, it was a solid 60 chocolate bar night for me. Stellar.

LEAVES: I am not, and will NEVER be too old to play in the leaves. I regularly throw them in the air and dance in them as they fall to the ground. I also love to rake a huge pile, and then ruin all my hard work by running and jumping into them. I’d consider this, free time well spent.

THANKSGIVING: Thanksgiving is 100. You get ridiculous amounts of delicious food, get to spend time reflecting on all of the amazing aspects of your life, and then you get a solid week of leftovers. Could anything be better?

OVERSIZED COZY SWEATERS: My Autumn must have. I live in oversized baggy sweaters and leggings. This is not only insanely comfortable, but it also allows for large meals to be eaten without having to suck in, or undo the top button on your tight jeans…. I’m just realizing now how much my life revolved around being able to eat mass amounts of food.

CARVING PUMPKINS: This year I carved a pumpkin with my niece. Getting her to stick her hands inside the pumpkin to pull out the ‘guts’ was more difficult than expected, but once she started, she couldn’t get enough. I love bonding with my girl!

CHRISTMAS IS COMING: Anyone who knows me knows that I am basically ELF in real life. As of November 1, I had Christmas music playing, and I am already planning my yearly Christmas Costume Party in Sweden. (PS I need some costume ideas from you all!)

SPENDING NIGHTS IN IS ACCEPTED AND CELEBRATED: I am a total homebody. If I have the choice to sit on my couch and watch a movie with my family and pups, or go to the hottest club, clearly I choose my couch.

MOVEMBER: My husband is huge into the MOVEMBER movement. Most people assume that I hate his moustache because I’m usually back in Canada during November, but I really have come to love his lip caterpillar. I think it’s a great cause and I’m proud of him and his team for raising awareness and funds to support the families affected by testicular and prostate cancer. These are just a few of my fav moments in Autumn!

THROWBAAAAAAAAAACK

I’m currently sitting at home with my dad who just had hip surgery.  He’s doing great and resting comfortably :).  I’ve had a lot of time on my hands today so I thought it would be fun to post a few throwbacks of little Ashley for you guys!

Here goes nothin!

Waddup world! On September 26, 1986 I arrived.  I was a hefty baby, yet still somehow managed to come out starving.  My mom still cringes when she thinks about my strong appetite as a baby. Muahaha

Have you ever seen anyone happier to be sitting in a laundry tub of lukewarm water??  I haven’t.  Bath time and snack time were/still are my favs.

I like to think that this was the start of my ‘awkward stage’.  I don’t know if it’s the bowlcut, or the inability to eat without getting food all over my face (which I never quite grew out of), but either way, it was a tough time for Ashley.

Ashley Leggat

Don’t act like you’ve never done business in nothing but a pair of jean short overalls.

At this point in my life, I actually thought I might be a hockey player.  After it was established that I was born without hand/eye coordination or any real skill involving sports at all, I figured the next best thing was to marry a hockey player.  Close enough.

But seriously, this broad loves a bath.  PS: I can still be found making the same face, and same Mohawk every time I take a bath.

Ok, I think that’s enough excitement for one day.

Talk soon!

Pulp & Press

Screenshot_2015-10-30-11-28-14~2For some reason whenever it starts to get cold out, all I want to do is eat junk.  It’s like my body is trying to store as much fat as it can for winter.  As much as I love to eat donuts and pizza, sometimes I just need a good cleanse to reset my system.  This is my absolute fav.  I’m not sure if any of you are familiar with cleanses, but the one I took involved drinking 5 juices a day (and as much water as I wanted) for 5 days.  The 5 day cleanse is $231 for 25 juices.  There is a 3 day option which is cheaper, but I was feeling ambitious.  You aren’t supposed to eat anything to really detox and cleanse your organs, but I’m not going to lie, I cheated a little bit here and there.  I never realized how mean I am when I’m hungry until I cleansed haha.  That snickers commercial is pretty accurate… mmm snickers… wait, sorry, back to the cleanse.

I chose the Pulp & Press (833 King St. West, Toronto) to get my juices from, for a few reasons.

  • It is an extremely well run company with a huge heart & is protective of our environment
  • Their juices are 100% organic with no additives or sweeteners in them
  • Pulp & Press supports our local economy by being ingredients from Ontario farmers

My husband cleansed with me, and we were both surprised by how much more energy we had.  I’m not going to lie, I am not the healthiest eater in the world, so it took a couple days for my body to figure out what the hell was going on, but by day 3, I was feeling amazing.

My initial goal was to reset my body and detox my organs, and I ended up losing a little weight too, so it was a win-win!

My favourite juices are:

TURBO

turbo1

Apple, cucumber, celery, spinach, kale, E3 Live & lime.

SPICY LEMON

spicy-lemon1

Apple, ginger, lemon & turmeric.

BETA BLASTER

beta-blaster1

Apple, carrot, beet, ginger & lemon.

ENVY

Cucumber, celery, kale, swiss chard, parsley, e3 live, lemon, lime & Himalayan sea salt.

If you are interested in learning more, I suggest calling and asking what cleanse would be the right fit for you.  They will be glad to help!  Pulp & Press juice is available through retailers across Canada.

Arm The Animals

Happy National Cat Day!

Sadly, I don’t have any kitties around me today, so my Yorkie will have to do.

We all know how much I love animals, and that I spend a good portion of my time working with organizations that I believe in, so I figured it was only fitting that I tell you about one of my favs on National Cat Day (since they raise awareness & money for small, struggling animal rescues).

Every month Arm The Animals donates a generous portion of every T-shirt sold to reputable shelters.

They honestly have the cutest shirts with all types of animals on them so you can honour your fav pet in Tshirt form.  I, of course, am partial to Yorkies, so they sent me this killer T with the most badass Yorkie ever on it.

And this cute tank!

Arm The Animals was started by a close group of friends who truly care about animals. In my opinion, this organization has a huge heart, and I think they’re really making an impact on the lives of animals in need.

If you want to get your own shirt, or just learn more about Arm The Animals, please visit them on their website or social media!
