Why I love Pampers

So I know you hear me talk about diapers a lot, but honestly, being a mom means that diapers become a huge staple in your life.  Trust me on this, with a bad diaper, your day can be totally ruined.

Last week I was at an event with a bunch of kids and Livi and I were there for about three hours. I changed her before we left the house and generally don’t worry about her diaper again until we are home, or she poops. As we were gathering up the kids to take them home, I noticed friends sons diaper was literally the size of a balloon… I asked if he had pooped and she said no, but that this brand of diapers (not Pampers) always looked like that after a couple of hours. I couldn’t believe it. Livi’s has NEVER looked like that, and I’m thankful that Pampers is so absorbent. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable the poor little guy must have been!

Secondly, the smell. Ok this is probably going to sound weird to you, but the smell of Pampers diapers brings me back to my childhood. I used to make my mom buy me newborn Pampers diapers so I could put them on my dolls. The second I opened my first pack for Livi, the nostalgia of my childhood immediately rushed in and it was such a surreal moment to remember changing my dolls, as I was about to change my real baby. It was likely the hormones, but it brought tears to my eyes.

Thirdly, I love that I get to collect points and cash them in for goodies with the Pampers Rewards Program. I appreciate a company that gives back, and it makes me feel better to know that I’m earning rewards for something that I have to buy weekly. Plus, I feel super cool every time I scan a barcode.

Lastly, it makes life a breeze when I can directly auto ship my Pampers products from Amazon with their Subscribe & Save program. There is nothing worse than forgetting to get diapers and realizing you have none left after your baby has a blowout. With auto ship, they are delivered right to my door every month and that makes this momma a very happy camper.

It’s funny, as I sit here writing this, if you had asked me two years ago if I would truly LOVE a diaper, I would think you were crazy… haha how times have changed!!

Happy Mother’s Day

I’ve always loved Mother’s Day because I’m obsessed with my mom and any day that is all about her makes me the happiest. I spent 30 years saying “Happy Mother’s Day” to all of the moms I know, until one day something magical happened. My first Mother’s Day.

It was the greatest feeling to have someone wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. Even though my little bundle of joy (who was 3 months at the time) couldn’t say it, the words didn’t need to be spoken. The image of my sweet little Olivia peacefully sleeping in my arms was the best gift anyone could have ever given me, and I will cherish that memory forever.

Now I’m an old vet at Mother’s Day. It’s officially my second one and it’s gotten a lot more exciting. Olivia is walking all over the place and greets me daily with “mama!” “dog” and lots of yelling in what appears to be a different language. I don’t know what she’s saying, but the sound of her sweet little voice happily yelling while she knocks everything around the house down, will be the greatest second Mother’s Day gift I could ever ask for.

Now that I am a mom, I realize it isn’t about the breakfast in bed (although that’s nice), or the gift card to mom’s favourite restaurant. I will spend my Mother’s Day simply sitting back and taking in the gift of getting to be my little princess’ momma.

Motherhood is loud, exhausting, wild, fun, hard, joyful and life changing. It isn’t for the faint of heart, and it’s truly a blessing if you are fortunate enough to get to have a baby. I am so thankful to spend my days and nights nurturing and protecting Olivia, and Mother’s Day reminds me just how lucky I am.

So here’s the biggest and loudest HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to those who have given every part of themselves to another little being. It’s the most rewarding job in the world and you are all superheroes!

Pampers and I would love to hear your story! Tell us about a Mother’s Day (your 1st or 12th) that stands out. What made that day special? Help us celebrate all the moms…. the pregnant ones, the first-timers, the veterans, etc! Can’t wait to hear your stories!

The Formula Stigma In partnership with Enfamil A+

Since I announced I was pregnant, I have been bombarded with advice. Most of which is about how to feed my baby.  I had every intention of fully breastfeeding Olivia, but unfortunately, after months of trying (and several specialists), I realized that I would need to supplement as Olivia’s needs grew.  I researched a lot about formula, and knew I wanted to give her a formula that was enriched with DHA.  A baby’s brain contains Omega-3 fat and most of that fat is DHA, an important building block of the brain.  By age 3, babies brain growth is 85% complete, so I realized the importance of making sure she was getting the nutrition she needed for optimal health.  Enfamil A+ is enriched with DHA, which made it a clear choice for me.  I use the ready feed bottles (which make my life SO much easier), and I feel happy knowing I’m giving her everything she needs.

So I am currently pumping 3 times a day, and supplementing with formula, and I have noticed a huge difference in Livi.  She is satisfied and happier, which means more love and snuggles for mama 🙂

Earth Day Friday!

Currently: Sitting on the floor trying to organize everything for my taxes… It’s the actual worst job in the world. SAVE ME!

Wearing: Grey Nike Sweats and a Blue Tank

Eating/Drinking: TinyTea from Your Tea. I’m on day 2 of my detox and dreaming of a large cheese pizza

Plans for today: Taxes for the next couple of hours.  I have to get a run in today, and then a candle lit (earth day so we are turning off the lights) movie night with my sister-in-laws!

Currently Watching: 48 Hours Hard Evidence.  I don’t even know why I watch this because every single time I convince myself that there is a murderer in my house.

Current Stress:  I’m hungry.  Taxes suck.  & Oakley is currently experiencing Paraphimosis.  I won’t get into detail about what that is because it’s SUPER disgusting, but I have a feeling I will end up at the vet at some point today.

Cuddling with: Oliver and Oakley

Doggies

Hair: High bun

Make up: None

Voila 🙂

PS Remember it’s Earth Day!  Do your part to show the earth we love it! (Plant a tree, Turn out the lights, Make sure your sink isn’t leaking, Recycle, Reduce, Reuse, Go Meatless for a week etc.)

Leggat Does London

If you follow my Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, you already know that I spent New Year’s Eve in London, England with my husband.  We only had 4 days off, but we made sure to do everything we had wanted to do while we were there. I decided that I would blog today about the great (and not so great things) that we did while we were there, so that if any of you are thinking of going, you know what to hit and what to miss.

Where to stay?

The Hub by Premier Inn at Covent Garden

Rating – EXCELLENT

Location is right downtown. Room is small but has everything you need. Extremely affordable. The staff is accommodating and knowledgeable about the city.  They knew we were celebrating a special occasion so they had chilled champagne delivered to us as well as free breakfast throughout our stay.  We will definitely be staying with them again!

What to do?

New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Rating – POOR

So I had heard a ton about the fireworks in London on New Year’s.  I have to say, we were disappointed.  It took us an hour and a half of walking (what felt like 20k) to find the location we were supposed to enter, as we had tickets to see the fireworks from the Waterloo Bridge.  We were sent in 100 different directions from the workers who seemed unprepared and uneducated about the event they were putting on. When we finally made it, the fireworks lasted about 10 minutes, and then we had the hour and a half walk home with 400,000 other people all being dispersed into the streets.  If you go to London on New Year’s, I’d suggest skipping this.

Freezing Cold after walking around for hours, but happy we finally found the bridge we are supposed to be on.

New Year’s Day Parade

Rating – EXCELLENT

One of the highlights of our trip!  We were invited for brunch at 1 Whitehall, where we had a delicious English breakfast and some champagne.  We then went to the street where we watched 3 hours of cheerleading, marching bands, magician acts, floats, miniature horses, and SO much more.  It was an absolute blast and something I will never forget.  This is a MUST DO if you are in London for New Year’s Day.  I will definitely be back next year, and might even be a part of the parade 😉

London Eye

Rating – AVERAGE

Both Jeremy and I found the London Eye to be overrated.  The views from the top are very beautiful, but it really wasn’t worth the money to take a 20-minute ride around the Ferris wheel.  Positives are that the line up moved very quickly and there weren’t a ton of people stuffed in the pod with us.  I’d suggest seeing the same views from any of the bridges that cross the Thames River.

Ice Skating at The Tower Of London

Rating – EXCELLENT

A really fun activity in an unbelievable setting.  Another unforgettable experience.  We ice skated behind the tower walls where Henry the 8th had Anne Boleyn beheaded.  Legend has it that you can still see her roaming the tower at night holding her head in her hands.  Thankfully we didn’t see anything like that haha, but to skate around knowing the history surrounding us, was definitely a thrill.  I highly suggest this if you visit London in the winter.

Original Bus Tour

Rating – AVERAGE

It was kind of hard to rate the bus tour as we only got to ride the bus to one stop before I lost the tickets (classic Ashley).  We went back to the information center, but they were unable to issue us new ones, so if you do decide to do the hop-on-hop-off bus tour DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKETS!  From our brief time on the bus, it seems that it is best if you sit upstairs as the tour guide is extremely hard to hear from the bottom.

London By Night

Rating – EXCELLENT

Another one of our favourites.  This is an hour and a half bus tour showing you all of the best locations in London at night.  In my opinion, going at night was much better than the day, because you can see everything a lot clearer, and there weren’t hundreds of people standing in front of every attraction.  Our tour guide was incredible and funny, and this is where I learned the most about London.  I definitely suggest this tour if you don’t mind not being able to get off at the stops, and just want a tour of the major highlights of the city.

In total, our 4 days were pretty jam packed, but I hope this helps anyone who has a short stay in London to weed out what the MUST-DO’s are!

Hope you all had a wonderful New Year!

Love always,
